Hawaii – Cruise or Pick an Island?

  • Big Kat posted: 27 Oct at 9:41 pm

    Hi.
MAUI!!!! by far. Do the bike ride down Haleakala. My bride and I did it twice.
Hana, you have to do the road to Hana and spend the night in Hana. Get a CD in Paie town, tour the town first, stop at Mama’s Fish House for lunch, dinner cost a lot. Start your tour, you’ll find a lot of good places in Hana. The Hana Maui is very pricey. Once on the Hana side stop at the Seven Sacred Pools and Lindbergh’s grave site.
Don’t fear you can drive any car around the island. We’ve done it four times. You’ll end up in Up-Country. Not bad, very good views.
I like Kihei stay at the Kamaole Sands.
Everyone has to see Lahina once, very touristy. You’ll love the town down by the water front, matter of fact it’s Front Street.
If this is your first trip and you decide on Maui. Make sure you do the Old Lahina Town Lua. You have to make reservations a couple of months in advance. They are on-line. You will not be disappointed.
There is a lot to see on any of the islands. So at the Airport pick-up a “Maui Gold” Guide book it will help you a lot. Aloha and Ma-halo

Don’t spend your time in Hawaii on the water traveling between the islands spend your time visiting them. You might want to begin on Oahu for Honolulu’s shopping and nightlife.Sun on world famous Waikiki Beach and experience some of the best restaurants you will find anywhere. Spend some time on cultural things such as Pearl Harbor and the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Then on to the beautiful island of Maui. The beaches and landscapes are breathtaking. Spend some time shopping in Lahaina and visiting Whalers Village near Kaanapali Beach. Snorkeling at Honolua Bay or Molokini Island. The most gorgeous sunsets you will see anywhere. And no Hawaiian vacation would be complete without a luau. The Old Lahaina Luau is the most authentic on all the islands. It will be one of the top highlights of your trip, a must see.

The Hawaiian people are the most friendly and hospitable you well ever find anywhere and are the best part of the trip. Visit with them, save the cruises for the Bahamas.

I would choose the island over the cruise. I find the cruises often restrict you from doing activities and visiting places you really want to do, due to the established itinerary.

Anyways seeing that it will be a girls trip I would recommend Maui as stated as above. Also no trip to the islands would be complete with a visit to Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. Your flight will most likely land in Honolulu where the main airport is located. You could spend a week or so in Honolulu and from there hop to some others.

Honolulu is the largest city and the central hub of Hawaii. It is home to probably the most famous beach in the world; Waikiki. It is home to absolutely gorgeous snorkeling beach called Hanuama Bay. You can rent gear there for a minimal cost and enjoy the whole day swimming with the fishes! For shopping there is a great open air mall with all the stores you would find on the mainlad called Ala Moana (It’s huge!). There is also Diamond Head, a extinct volcano, framing the horizon on Waikiki, that can be hiked. Honolulu is also famous for it’s nightlife, with bars and clubs and any anyone and anyage.

    Hope this helps
    Aloha!

For a first trip to Hawaii, I would definitely recommend visiting one or more islands instead of cruising. That way you’ll get to spend all of your time seeing Hawaii and none of it at sea. You want beaches and water and you definitely can’t go swimming off a cruise ship! A cruise ship is not conducive to hiking either. But, you can drink as many pretty little drinks as you can afford. Drinks are not included in the cruise fare.

I’d suggest that you contact a Hawaii travel agent who can help you decide which island(s) would best suit each of your Hawaii dreams, meet your needs and fit into your budgets. You could, for example, contact me and I’ll help you pick out and book everything, including activities that include pretty little drinks.

Check out my source to reach me directly.

Cruising is fun, but you don’t have a lot of time on any of the islands that way. Airfare between islands is reasonable ($29 one way) so you can base yourself on one island and visit one or more of the others. Most people start off in Oahu – it has many of the famous tourist areas – the Polynesian Cultural Center, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor – and if you like to keep busy, there is a lot to do on Oahu. Kauai is very pretty, rain forests, the ‘Grand Canyon’ of the Pacific, but less to do in the way of nightlife and it rains ALOT. Maui is more a mix between the laid back island life and the more busy Oahu – lot’s to do, or not, as you choose. The big Island (Hawaii) has the volcanoes, black sand beaches, and is also a great place to be. Any island you choose will be a good choice – but for the first time, really think about traveling at least one time to a different island while you’re here.
    Aloha

Fly to Oahu!! You will have more time to do what you want to do (more shopping)!!!
If you are “into Elvis”, go to the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel and see “Blue Hawaii The Show”. There is an excellent Elvis impressionist there and you can have your drinks with the umbrella’s in them!!

haha.. i have never been to hawaii.. but since you are my friend, i thought i should post something :) i think you should do the island hoping instead of cruise. cruising is generally rather restrictive. considering airfare between islands is very cheap, i think its the way to go. you can also get ur pilots license and rent airplanes.. i think that will be the best way to go :)
